Eriksson set for Samui
In a further boost to Thai island Koh
Samui’s international profile it was announced last week that
ex-England manager Sven Goran Eriksson has invested there. Speaking
exclusively to APR he outlined the reasons behind his purchase in the
Peregrina Bay development. “I was contacted five or six months ago by
Jem (Sanders, one of the partners in developer Jemro Development Co,.
Ltd) asking if I was interested to promote it and Lans (Sternmarker) my
agent went down to see the place and said it was beautiful so I said
OK, I’m happy to do that,” he said, speaking in Bangkok this week.
Eriksson
has bought a 400 sqm penthouse in the development which will have six
villas and six condominium units when complete and is located in Laem
Set on the island’s secluded south east coast.
“The natural
topography of the site is very good. It’s at the end of the beachfront,
It’s very low density and has a great view out over nearby islands,”
Robert Collins of Peregrina Bay’s agents Savills said. “Having an
interesting first buyer also really helps put the project on the map.”
“I
have a lot of houses but not in countries where the weather is as good
as it is here in the European winter, so I always thought about buying
a place somewhere in the world where you can spend the winter months,
especially when I retire from football,” Eriksson said.
“Actors,
sportsmen and sportswomen invest in property in places like this. I’m
sure they do it because it’s a good investment. Normally people who are
famous, for whatever reason, don’t want to go on holiday to crowded
places, so this is a perfect place,” he continued.
The projects first launch exhibition is scheduled to take place at the Mandarin Oriental in early November.
