Year after year, Thailand tops the travel charts as one of the world's favourite destinations and it is easy to see the appeal. Thailand has everything visitors could want in a holiday location; it is both exotic and beautiful, featuring incredible natural attractions, delicious cuisine, warm and friendly people and plenty of variety.
Thailand also has fantastic year-round weather and plenty of incredible accommodation options, including some of the most luxurious private villas in the world at surprisingly affordable rates. In fact, whatever one wants from a vacation, Thailand can deliver, with diverse regions offering visitors a very different experience from one location to another.
One of the most popular and often repeated highlights of a vacation in Thailand is spending time on its famously beautiful beaches. To enjoy the best stretches of sanding the land, most visitors head to the southern islands of Phuket or Koh Samui on their Thailand vacation. Phuket is Thailand’s largest island and home to a large number of top class private villas. The beaches at Phuket are among the best in the kingdom, and even better ones can be found framing the many smaller nearby islands, easily reached on a day trip. Chartering a boat and visiting many of the Andaman region's islands, such as Koh Phi Phi, is a great way to enjoy peace and quiet amid the incredible natural beauty of the region.
No Thailand vacation would be complete without at least some time spent in the capital city of Bangkok. Bangkok is by far Thailand’s largest and most developed city, with nearly 10 million inhabitants, and now boasts an excellent public transit system known as the BTS (known as the Skytrain), made necessary by the city’s infamous traffic jams. Bangkok is home to the Grand Palace and many of the country’s most famous and holy temples. The famed Emerald Buddha is probably Thailand’s most important religious artefact, and also housed in Bangkok. Any visitor to the city should be sure to make some time to see it.
Thailand’s northern city of Chiang Mai boasts a unique atmosphere all its own. Historically, the people and the culture are known as Lanna, which is quite distinct from central Thai culture and even the dialect is different from Bangkok and its surrounding areas. In addition, the region is quite mountainous, offering some incredibly beautiful views as well as isolated communities that are still home to ethnic hill tribes, which have lived in remote mountain villages for generations and have their own language, culture and customs.
Even for those returning to Thailand many times find that each trip is a memorable and refreshing experience. With so much to do and see, the country's diverse regions offer something for every taste and budget, and with a choice of private villas now available in the best locations, a holiday in the Land of Smiles offers the ultimate break from the stresses and strains of daily life.
